Ocula - counter fridge
The breakthrough in freezing and storing food.
Concept design
*Challenge
Breaking away from the conventional way to store food, we will build the next generation of kitchen products, focusing on user convenience, and relating to specific usage scenarios.
Door closes while taking items out of the fridge.
Usually disorganized and overloaded space.
The fridge takes up a lot of kitchen space.
There are not many divisions for freezing sections.
Problem
Nowadays, fridges in any household are often overloaded, packed with containers with preprepared food, and built as huge vertical blocks that are inconvenient to use. It is uncomfortable to take things out because the items are placed all over the shelves making it hard to lay hold of anything that is either at the back of the fridge or under another item. Moreover, the user usually has to bend to grab stuff that is uncomfortable and might cause back pain. Also, people tend to grab multiple items at the same time, which often ends in dropping them. Lastly, the fridge door closes while a person is actively trying to use it - which is extremely irritating and disturbing.
Background
The main purpose of this project is to propose a new direction for a 'counter fridge' by improving the structural limitation of the existing fridges and mini-refrigerators. With the recent increase in healthy lifestyle approaches and with people having a fast pace life, demand for counter /mini-fridges that are conveniently available in personal workplaces and kitchens is increasing.
Concept Sketch
Opens up
Ideally, the fridge installed in a kitchen island counter takes less space and allows the user to quickly and easily access the food. Moreover, it is way more convenient to place or prepare food right on the counter without carrying it anywhere.
Freezing sectors
More possibilities, more control! The fridge is divided into different sectors - fruits, meat, and veggies - which allows the user to keep ideal temperature for all the sections, and allows to change it anytime.
Interactive pannel
Once the fridge is open in the middle there is a panel that displays the settings.
Insight on ergonomics
To reduce space and layout constraints, I adopt it as a sliding method that moves up and down, and it is designed with a structure in which the door rail is bent in the user's direction, taking into account ergonomic factors such as the user's arm joint structure.
