THE PROBLEM

Atlanta is a vibrant city, but its traffic rates have reached alarming proportions in recent years which has not only increased congestion but also frustration on its roads. And one of the most pressing factors is the limited coverage and accessibility of its public transportation system, MARTA, which as seen by its current route coverage, is falling short in providing comprehensive connectivity throughout the city.

RESEARCH FINDINGS

Conducting research about commuting behaviors and experiences in Atlanta, we realized that there needs to be a re-establishment of the Transit hubs so that they no longer are seen as alternatives but can as preferred mode of commuting, offering seamless, safe and enjoyable experience for its users.

THE PHOENIX'S HUB

The Hubs need to emphasize on access to information with accessible Kiosk design which are not just used to buy rides but also to personalize and provide people with the best routes of navigation.

It should serve as a place that encourages people to embrace the city and engage with the community. It needs to become a catalyst for economic growth which attracts local business and shops so that its safety and maintenance don’t get compromised over time.

HOW TO GET PEOPLE TO THESE HUBS?

We realized that the system needs to solve the first and last-mile commuting needs of the people so that their journey with public transportation begins wherever they are, and whenever they need.

As you can see in the map - Atlanta boasts of a grid system that we can fully utilize and leverage to enable this expansion and that is exactly what Phoenix does.

It is a seven seater autonomous vehicle that uses artificial intelligence to connect you with rides heading in the same direction as you. It is a conscious design made to fit the needs of different demographics and is an attempt to create an affordable and safe experience when using public transportation.

IDENTITY ATTRIBUTES

20.png

It's personal-because it's your ride made to fit your needs. You can reserve a seat that you prefer, use an app on your phone, laptop or even a public kiosk to get an access code. It ensures you get to your stop in the shortest and fastest way.

21.png

It's accessible-because we embrace how different we all are. We have a wheel-chair accessible ramp entrance and an auto-locking wheel design that removes the need for external help when traveling in a public vehicle, as well as specific sounds and vibrations when a ride reaches a stop to alert people with visual or auditory difficulties.

22.png

It's secure- both for us and our future. The personal seat screen enables tracking and sharing your ride, and also enables you to alert the security staff in the main hub if you ever feel unsafe. It uses electrical energy to significantly reduce fuel consumption, and is made with local biodegradable materials so that we ensure we are riding for a long time.
